Stunell joins Compstall residents for the world's biggest coffee morning for Macmillan9.52.58am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 29th Sep 2006
Hazel grove MP, Andrew Stunell, is encouraging local residents to join the World's Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday 29 September 2006. Last year nearly two million people stirred themselves into action and took part in the fun by hosting or attending coffee events across the UK, and raised a staggering £6.5 million. This Friday 29th September between 10.30-12am, Stockport residents will join Andrew Stunell MP at St Paul's Church Hall in Compstall to enjoy a cup of coffee and show their support for Macmillan Cancer Support. Commenting on the event, Mr Stunell said: "The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is a great way not only to raise money for such a fantastic cause but also catch up and have some fun with friends and family. "Cancer is something that has affected so many of my constituents in the Stockport area and having a cup of coffee is a great way to make a difference and help Macmillan fund its vital work for people living with cancer. "So come on Stockport, get the coffee and biscuits out, invite all your friends and let's make all our cups of coffee count!" Pam Etherington-Smith, Romiley resident and co-ordinator of the Compstall coffee morning commented added: "I got involved with Macmillan ten years ago when a family member died of cancer, and have organised the coffee morning ever since. "Macmillan Cancer Support helps people living with cancer and their families, and I know from experience what a difference their support can make. It is such a worthwhile cause." One in three people will get cancer with 1.2 million people in the UK living with the disease. All money raised last year helped Macmillan be a source of practical, medical, emotional and financial support to those affected by cancer. ENDS Editors Notes 1.
